Reptiles

Reptiles are vertebrates with lungs. When talking about about marine reptiles, everybody thinks of sea-turtles.

But in this Komodo cruise, the most fascinating reptile is the Komodo dragon. This large terrestrial monitor is 10 feet long and weighs 150 pounds. It lives on Komodo island, of course, but also on other neighboring islands.

It is carnivorous, hunter or scavenger. Its bites require emergency treatment as the resulting infection can cause necrosis or even death.

We met them on Rinca island, where there are more than 1000 individuals. Do not trust their placid looks: they are capable of lightning attacks and can run at 15 mph.
