At Jameos del Agua, Manrique used part of a huge lava tunnel. A collapsed section was turned into a swimming pool.

Cesar Manrique (1919 - 1992) was a painter, architect and Spanish sculptor. Born in Lanzarote, he lived in Madrid and the USA before going back to his native island in 1968.
He credited Lanzarote with several works that combine modern art with natural features due to volcanoes.
His house exploits natural lava bubbles that he transformed into living rooms, seeking primarily to integrate his project in the natural setting.
Today, this house is the headquarters of the Cesar Manrique Foundation.
