Vegetation in Lanzarote

Volcanic soils are fertile because they are rich in minerals. But most of the soils of Lanzarote are still formed of ashes without any organic matter content.
Cactuses that dislike excess water grow there perfectly. A large garden created by the artist Manrique is dedicated to them.
Farmers cultivate fields of fine slag and ash. The vineyard of La Geria shelters its vines in holes dug in the ashes. A wall protects them from the wind and allows to collect the humidity of the night.
There are also large plantations of aloe for the cosmetics industry.
